LA&PS is a hub for international activity, both as a destination for scholars from around the world and as a source of expertise, with a focus on a broader global perspective through our programming. LA&PS also provides students with international academic opportunities to enhance their intercultural skills within a framework of global citizenship and cultural reciprocity.

2023-24 Highlights

  Study Abroad: Greece
  
  
Students had the opportunity to Study Abroad in Greece this year, learning about Greek heritage, culture and politics.

  Study Abroad: Ireland
  
  
While exploring Ireland during their Study Abroad course, students visited historical sites and museums, in order to learn more about the country's rich history.

  Study Abroad: Italy
  
  
Study Abroad students embraced Italy's local culture and cuisine by visiting historical sites and gaining hands-on experience during an Italian cooking class.

  Study Abroad: South Korea
  
  
Students immersed themselves in South Korea's rich culture and delicious cuisine during their Study Abroad course that also offered the opportunity to explore and connect with the Chung-Ang University.

  Study Abroad: Portugal
  
  
Study Abroad students experienced the lively and vibrant culture of Portugal, experiencing unique activities such as creating graffiti in Lisbon, a city known for its street art.

2023-24 Achievements

  
Following the pandemic, the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies successfully launched eight new Summer Abroad courses in 2024, including a new pilot Study Away course to British Columbia.
        
    
 
  
Ninety-five of the 100 students registered to participate in Study Abroad are also eligible for a new $2,000 award in UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) funding.
       
    
 
    
Received 1.5 million in total funding from the New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF), our largest total awarded funding from any year, for LA&PS researchers who are at the forefront of knowledge and have a direct impact on people's lives.
        
    
During the 2023-24 academic year, a total of $26,000 was distributed through the Global & Community Engagement Collaborative Projects and Events & Outreach Funds, to support 12 diverse York University initiatives, both locally and globally.
