DARE Project: School Referrals and Reporting to Child Welfare Services: Insights from Teachers in British Columbia and Ontario
Program(s) of Study: Bachelor of Social Work
Project Supervisor: Sarah Maiter

I hope this research fosters more equitable, culturally responsive approaches to child welfare reporting.

Project Description:

The School Referrals and Reporting to Child Welfare Services: Insights from Teachers in British Columbia and Ontario project seeks to understand how teachers navigate their responsibilities of mandated reporting while also supporting underrepresented students facing concerns of child abuse and neglect. As a research assistant, I led participant outreach and recruitment, conducted interviews with teachers, analyzed qualitative data, and conducted a literature search. Through this work, I supported the team to better understand the tough decisions teachers face and how larger systems impact those choices.
