The LA&PS Research Office publishes a bi-weekly Research Digest to keep faculty members informed about important research issues and opportunities.

Retired YUFA Faculty and External Grants

Retired YUFA Faculty members are welcome to apply to external funding agencies for grant monies. The University will sign off on such applications, and set up 500 cost centres in the event of an award. Retired faculty in LA&PS can seek the support of pre-award and post-award services through the research unit of the Dean's Office in relation to external funding.

LA&PS Minor Research Grant

Deadline: Apr. 15, 2016

Within the eligibility requirements set out in the guidelines, YUFA Faculty in LA&PS can apply for up to $5000 from this fund.

SSHRC Grant in Aid of Travel

Deadline: May 1, 2016

To provide assistance for attendance at national and international scholarly conferences for which the applicant is giving a paper, making a poster presentation, or featured at a solo or 2- person opening of an exhibition, a principal screening, premier performance of dance, theatre or musical production.

Specific Research Grant

Deadline: May 1, 2016

The program permits, under certain conditions, a researcher to receive a research grant in lieu of salary through a mechanism which includes peer review.

Setting the Context: Research & Syrian Refugee Resettlement in Canada

In April 2016, Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and SSHRC will formally announce the launch of a joint initiative and call for proposals to support peer-reviewed research on Syrian refugee resettlement in Canada. The call for applications will open in April, 2016, with links on both IRCC and SSHRC websites.

The key objective of this joint initiative and call is to award supplementary support to active SSHRC funded researchers working in areas related to immigration and refugee resettlement. The call seeks to support research addressing pressing short-term issues related to the current refugee resettlement effort, in order to inform and support the efforts of policymakers, service organisation and other stakeholders.

Canada Council: Killam Research Fellowships

Agency Deadline: May 15, 2016

A fellowship from this program provides two full years of release time, beginning no later than 1 January following notification of the fellowship (you may not request less than the full two-year fellowship period). The support for the second year depends on approval of your interim report.

Toronto Arts Council: Grants to Writers

Toronto Arts Council Writers Program supports the creation of new literary works or works-in-progress in the genres of fiction (including novels, short stories, children's literature, graphic novels, etc.), literary non-fiction, poetry and oral traditions such as storytelling, dub, rap and spoken-word.

Digging into Data Challenge

The Trans-Atlantic Platform (T-AP) has launched the next round of the Digging in Data Challenge, which supports research projects that use “big data” approaches to address questions in the social sciences, humanities, and engineering.  NSERC, SSHRC and the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Nature et technologies/Fonds de recherche du Québec - Société et culture (FRQNT/FRQSC) are all involved.

TOEFL® Committee of Examiners 2017 Research Program
