2016 Robarts Lecture in Canadian Studies

On April 28, 2016, Dr. Deborah McGregor (Osgoode Hall Law School, Faculty of Environmental Studies, Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Environmental Justice) gave The 4th Annual Robarts Lecture in Canadian Studies entitled "The Truth and Reconciliation Commission and a New Reconciliation Proclamation: How far have we come?" SSHRC Grant in Aid of Travel

Deadline: August 1, 2016 (for travel during Sept 1 - Feb 29)

To provide assistance for attendance at national and international scholarly conferences for which the applicant is giving a paper, making a poster presentation, or featured at a solo or 2-person opening of an exhibition, a principal screening, premier performance of dance, theatre or musical production. Note:  Since August 1 is a holiday, applications will be accepted until  end of business day on August 2.

LA&PS Travel Grant for Dissemination

Deadline: August 1, 2016

To offset costs associated with the public dissemination of research, scholarship, or creativity. Eligibility: Full-time YUFA faculty members and senior scholars in LA&PS. (If you have trouble accessing the form, contact Sergio Garzon.) Note:  Since August 1 is a holiday, applications will be accepted until  end of business day on August 2.

Tri-Council Statement on Digital Data Management

As promised some time back, the Tri-Council has now issued a statement on the management of digital data.  Please visit this site to access the document.

SSHRC Launches New Insight and Connection Achievement Reports

SSHRC has been developing a new approach to end-of-grant reporting that is more user-friendly. As part of this process, it has created a revised and more concise achievement report. This replaces the existing final research and activity reports. Beginning June 6th, 2016, new achievement reports will be available to Insight Development Grant and Connection Grant recipients. They will be in a survey format on Fluidsurveys, a secure web platform, and must be submitted within six months of the end of the grant period.

NSERC Awards for Science Promotion

NSERC is pleased to announce a Call for Nominations for the NSERC Awards for Science Promotion.  These awards are an opportunity for Canada’s science community to recognize, support and encourage outstanding science promoters. More details.

ESRC-AHRC CFP on Forced Displacement

The Economic Social Research Council (ESRC) in collaboration with the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) are launching a call for innovative, interdisciplinary projects focusing on the experiences of the forced displaced (both internationally and internally) whether due to poverty, war, conflict, persecution or human rights violations. NOTE: while only ESRC or AHRC eligible researchers can apply, overseas researchers of comparable standing (eg., SSHRC eligible) are eligible to be international co-investigators and be funded for direct costs.

Nunavut Research Institute

ORS Deadline: July 27, 2016

The Nunavut Research Institute (NRI) in partnership with Irving Shipbuilding Inc., recently launched a Call for Proposals for applied research projects with a northern focus. More details.

NSERC Discovery: Notice of Intent to Apply

Deadline: August 1, 2016 by 8:00 p.m.

Researchers who are considering applying for a NSERC Discovery Grant (Deadline: November 1, 2016) must complete the Notification of Intent to Apply (Form 180). More details.

SSHRC Knowledge Synthesis Grant Related to First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples

ORS Deadline: Aug. 29, 2016

Agency Deadline:  Sept. 13, 2016

Proposals are sought that address the challenge area of: How are the knowledge systems, experiences and aspirations of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples essential to building a successful and shared future for all Canadians? Note: All application materials must be submitted as PDF files and be received by September 13, 2016 at the agency. ORS must receive the application no later than September 9, 2016, by 10:00am in order to prepare the required institutional letter and return it to the applicant to include in his/her application materials for submission to SSHRC on September 13, 2016.  The applicant will be responsible for submitting the PDF files directly to SSHRC.  More details.

SSHRC Insight Grant

Deadline for a guaranteed full, substantive review of the full application by your LA&PS Research Officer: Sept. 6, 2016

LA&PS Deadline to receive ADR's required signature on the ORS checklist: Oct. 6, 2016

Submission of signed Checklist + hard copy of full application to ORS + online e-submission: By noon, Oct 17, 2016

Applications are now available for the SSHRC Insight Grant, a program which supports research projects of 3-5 years in the humanities and social sciences. This SSHRC program is primarily aimed at “established scholars” (as SSHRC defines them).  This is a high-volume competition, so please take careful note of the deadlines above. To improve competitiveness, we recommend a full substantive review of your complete application by your research officer. The materials due on October 6 include: 1) completed ORS Checklist with applicant, Chair/Director/ORU Director signature and Assoc. Dean Research signature, (2) hard copy of draft application and (3) completed budget. More details.

OCE-PROMPT-NSERC Cybersecurity R&D Challenge

The Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE), Prompt and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) are inviting eligible researchers to submit Expressions of Interest (EOI) in partnership with for-profit businesses in Ontario and Quebec. Maritime Literary Cultures: Reading and Writing at Sea

CFP Deadline: July 31, 2016

To be held at Heidelberg University on 28-29 October 2016, this workshop will bring together interest in maritime history with the history of print culture and literary studies, focussing on cultures and practices of literary production, circulation and reception at sea across a broad chronology.  More details.
