LA&PS Institutes NOI for SSHRC IDG
Planning to apply for a SSHRC Insight Development Grant in the next competition? If so, please fill in the NOI form that's been established by LA&PS to facilitate applications to this high-volume program. The deadline for completing the NOI form is Friday, November 6, 2015. The NOI form can be found here.
How Do I Find LA&PS Funding Forms?
The revised LA&PS website has placed all of the LA&PS application forms for internal funding behind a login page. To reach them, you must go to the LA&PS Research page
Then do the following: 1) scroll down to the big, red box that says "Research Resources" and click! 2) type in your York Passport log in; 3) Click on the red words "Click to continue to Intranet Sites Prod"; 4) Click on "Funding Opportunities" in the menu on the left; 5) click on "Internal Opps by Type"; and 6) scroll down to the internal funding opportunity that you seek to access the form.

Robarts Centre Issues Next Canada Watch
The Fall 2015 issue of Canada Watch, "The Politics of Evidence, " is now available online. Edited by Jody Berland and Jennifer Dalton, this issue "investigates the records and implications of the government's war on science."
FGS Launches York Post-doctoral Fellowship Program
The Faculty of Graduate Studies has launched a York post-doctoral program targeted at York doctoral candidates in their fourth year of study. Applicants must have fulfilled or expect to fulfill all requirements for the doctoral degree on or before August 31 in the fourth year of their doctoral degree.

Internal Grants
SSHRC Small Grant
Deadline: Oct. 31, 2015
To provide support to full-time faculty members and professional librarians and junior faculty, for pilot projects, 'opportunistic' small projects, and projects not readily funded elsewhere.

York Incentive Grant
Deadline: Nov. 1, 2015
To provide support to defray costs that are essential to the preparation of a successful grant application, such as those associated with assembling collaborative teams. It is intended to assist larger-scale initiatives in the quest for external funding. These grants are not awarded to support the preparation of applications for the standard programs of research support (e.g., NSERC Discovery, SSHRC Connections Grants, and SSHRC Insight and Insight Development Grants). Applications will be considered in support of the development of larger-scale tri-council applications.

Mariano E. Elia Research Fund
Deadline: Nov. 1, 2015
To support small-scale research projects where a significant contribution to Italian-Canadian studies will be made and the prestige of the university enhanced. Eligible expenses include research costs and travel to conferences.

Specific Research Grants

The program permits, under certain conditions, a researcher to receive a research grant in lieu of salary through a mechanism which includes peer review.
LA&PS Travel Grant for Dissemination
Deadline: Nov. 1, 2015
LA&PS offers this grant to offset costs associated with the public dissemination of research, scholarship, or creativity. Full-time YUFA faculty members and senior scholars in LA&PS are eligible to apply.

LA&PS Minor Research Grant
Deadline: Nov. 16, 2015
The adjudicated vehicle through which LA&PS dispenses the YUFA Faculty/Library Research Grant Funding and the YUFA Junior Faculty/Librarian Fund. Funding for research projects, eligible expenses include personnel, research travel, subsistence costs.

YUFA Research Development Fellowship
Deadline: Nov. 15, 2015
Fellowships are intended to provide a period of reduced or eliminated time from teaching, professional responsibilities or service commitments to commit more time and energy on a particular project.

YUFA Release Time Teaching Fellowships

Fellowships are intended to provide recipients with the opportunity to develop innovative teaching and learning projects or to enhance their own teaching skills. Eligibility: Full-time faculty in tenure-stream appointments.

YUFA Teaching-Learning Development Fund

Funds are available to support projects which have the potential to make significant curricular or methodological contributions to teaching and learning at York, or which enable faculty to enhance their own teaching skills. Eligibility: All members of the YUFA bargaining unit.

External Notices
SSHRC Plans Changes to the Connections Grant
In an effort to streamline the Connection Grants application requirements, SSHRC will make some changes to the application form. As a result, the form will be unavailable as of 8:01 p.m. ET on November 2, 2015. All Connection Grants applications that are IN-PROGRESS will be deleted from the on-line system if they have not been submitted to SSHRC via the institution's Research Office or not-for-profit organization's financial administrator before 8:00 p.m. ET on November 2. The revised Connection Grants application form will become available on November 4, 2015.
The following enhancements will be implemented as of November 4, 2015:
- CVs will no longer be required for collaborators.
- The Knowledge Mobilization Plan attachment will no longer be required.
- The Relationship to Other Support attachment will no longer be required.
- The Event Presenters form has been significantly streamlined.

Bibliographical Society of America Fellowships

The Society invites applications for its ninth annual Katharine Pantzer Senior Fellowship in Bibliography and the British Book Trades as well as its annual short-term fellowships, all of which support bibliographical inquiry and research in the history of the book trades and in publishing history. Eligible topics may concentrate on books and documents in any field, but should focus on the book or manuscript (the physical object) as historical evidence. Such topics may include establishing a text or studying the history of book production, publication, distribution, collecting, or reading.

Gatherings: Communities of Print and the Book

In May 2016, the Bibliographical Society of Canada invites scholars to shift their perspective from the national and global scale and to consider the printed word, the book, and texts on the micro-scale of the community. In tandem with the general Congress theme of "Energizing Communities," the BSC-SbC will showcase papers by scholars examining communities of readers, communities of writers, communities of the book and of print.
