Degree Requirements

These petitions are a request to alter, or waive the requirements for degree continuation and completion. These requirements can be both Program and Faculty level.

Degree Requirement Waived or Altered

With extenuating circumstances, you may petition to have a degree requirement waived for an upper-level, elective, general education or residency course.

Required Forms/Documents

  • Online Petition Application
  • Statement of Grounds (student’s personal letter) explaining the extenuating circumstances.

Waive Honours Standing Regulations

Due to extenuating circumstances, you wish to continue in a 120-credit honours program despite not having met the required average(s) needed to continue past the 90 earned credits check point.

Required Forms/Documents

  • Online Petition Application
  • Statement of Grounds (student’s personal letter) explaining your extenuating circumstances that have caused you not to be able to obtain the required Honours GPAs. Explain how these extenuating circumstances have been mitigated.
  • Academic Advising Appointment with your academic advisor to formulate an academic success plan and a degree checklist.
  • Academic Success Plan including the following:
    • Major(s)/Minor of intended program,
    • New strategies study approach to ensure academic success,
    • List all resources you will utilize to ensure required GPAs are achieved,
    • List of courses the student must/would like to take,
    • List reasonable required grades/averages needed over those courses.
  • Relevant Supporting Documentation regarding your extenuating circumstances must be submitted.

Take Additional Credits, 90 - Credits Degree and 120 - Credits Degree

Take additional credits beyond the permitted maximum (90 earned credits + 12 additional credits) in an attempt to earn the average(s) required for a 90-credit degree. Or (120 earned credits +12 additional credits) in an attempt to earn the average(s) required for a 120-credit degree.

Required Forms/Documents

  • Online Petition Application
  • Statement of Grounds (student’s personal letter) explaining your extenuating circumstances that have caused you not to be able to obtain the required GPAs.  Explain how these extenuating circumstances have been mitigated.
  • Academic Advising Appointment with your academic advisor to formulate an academic success plan and a degree checklist.
  • Academic Success Plan including the following.
    • Major(s)/Minor of intended program,
