Internal Notices
Director Search Extended for CRLCC
Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Director of the Centre on Language and Culture Contact (CRLCC), Glendon College, York University, for a term of two years, to begin July 1, 2017. Subject to successful rechartering of the CRLCC in 2019, there is a possibility for the mandate to be renewed for a further term. Deadline for applications has been revised to: Apr. 5, 2017.
Update on the Open Access and Open Data Steering Committee
YFile recently published an update from the new campus-wide Open Access and Open Data Steering Committee, co-chaired by Joy Kirchner, University Librarian, and Sushanta Mitra, Associate Vice-President Research, which began its work in fall 2016 with the goal of coordinating campus-wide education on open access and data management, particularly in light of Tri-Agency Open Access Policy requirements and the Tri-Agency Statement of Principles on Digital Data Management. SSHRC Research Opportunities Grants Program
Deadline: March 31, 2017
To provide support to full-time faculty, professional librarians and current Postdoctoral Fellows for stand-alone, small-scale projects and for projects that will lead to the development of larger SSHRC applications or other external funding. More details.
LA&PS Support for Scholarly Journals
Deadline: Mar. 31, 2017
The objective of this fund, at present in the third year of a five-year pilot initiative, is to offset costs related to the successful operations of scholarly journals for which LA&PS faculty members hold substantial, on-going senior editorial roles. More details. (Go to section #5 on the page.)
LA&PS Minor Research Grant
Deadline: April 17, 2017
The adjudicated vehicle through which LA&PS dispenses the YUFA Faculty/Library Research Grant Funding and the YUFA Junior Faculty/Librarian Fund. Funding for research projects, eligible expenses include personnel, research travel, subsistence costs. More details.
SSHRC Conference Opportunity Grants Program
Deadline: May 1, 2017
To provide assistance for attendance at national and international scholarly conferences for which the applicant is giving a paper, making a poster presentation, or featured at a solo or 2-person opening of an exhibition, a principal screening, premier performance of dance, theatre or musical production. Value: Generally, up to a minimum APEX or Charter Class airfare. More details.

The program permits, under certain conditions, a researcher to receive a research grant in lieu of salary through a mechanism which includes peer review. More details.

Active Archives: Bringing Ontario's History Online
In collaboration with the Ontario Historical Society, the Archives of Ontario is excited to host a series of presentations about how institutions and researchers are bringing the province’s history online. The presentations will be followed by a tour of the Archives’ Family Ties: Ontario Turns 150 onsite exhibit and state-of-the-art facility. More details.

External Grants and Fellowships
Boston Athenæum: Short-term Fellowships
Agency Deadline: Apr. 15, 2017
The Boston Athenæum offers short-term fellowships to support the use of Athenæum collections for research, publication, curriculum and program development, or other creative projects. Each fellowship pays a stipend of $1,500 for a residency of twenty days (four weeks) and includes a year’s membership to the Boston Athenæum. Scholars, graduate students, independent scholars, teaching faculty, and professionals in the humanities as well as teachers and librarians in secondary public, private, and parochial schools are eligible. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or foreign nationals holding the appropriate U.S. government documents. More details.

OAC Literary Creation Projects

This Ontario Arts Council program supports Ontario-based literary artists with their living expenses while they complete new works for book-length publication or for public performance, and literary performers who wish to record their own repertoire. ACU Titular Fellowship

Genre Worlds: Popular Fiction in the 21st Century

Popular fiction is one of the most dynamic cultural and commercial divisions of twenty-first century publishing. Internally, it is organised along the lines of genres, creating what we call ‘genre worlds.’ This conference will consider the ways that contemporary genre worlds function as sectors of the publishing industry, as social and cultural formations, and as bodies of texts. Who is publishing popular fiction? Who is reading it? How do genre communities form, and how do texts circulate within them? How are terms like popular fiction, genre fiction, commercial fiction and trade publishing used, and what do they suggest about the way that popular fiction is conceived of and valued, by the industry and academy alike? Mediating Cultural Work: Texts, Objects and Politics

The expansion of cultural work – understood as activities of production in the creative and cultural industries, media and the arts – has been accompanied by a plethora of texts, discourses and representations about such work, as well as a whole range of policy narratives, descriptions and manifestos designed to specify and define the goods and qualities such work provides. Yet more critical accounts have also emerged to challenge the ways in which cultural and media work is mediated, as well as organised, managed and experienced – subverting common-sense understandings and more upbeat and hegemonic narratives. Left History: Special Theme Issues
While we continue to welcome submissions on these and other topics, Left History is also compiling articles for more thematically focused future issues. These themes are: 1) Critical and historical analysis of left- and right-wing politics in Trumpist America; 2) The Left and the history of sexuality; 3) New approaches to history; 4) Politics and the environment. Submissions should be no more than 35 pages in length (double spaced) and should follow the guidelines set out by the Chicago Manual of Style, 16th ed.
