Give your summer months some international flair! LA&PS summer abroad courses have a combined format, with one to three weeks of class instruction at York’s Keele campus and up to four weeks abroad with your classmates and LA&PS professor in another country.

HIST 3875 6.0 – The History of Globalization and Port Cities: Hamburg

Hamburg, Germany

HIST 3875 analyzes some of the major developments in the history of globalization throughout history with a focus on the nineteenth and twentieth century. Special attention will be given to the role played by port cities in the development of an interconnected world from the medieval period to the present.

HIST 4083 3.0 - Changing Natures: Environmental and Social History in Costa Rica

HIST 4083 brings together topics and methods from social and environmental history to immerse students in the field-based study of the history of ecological conservation in southern Costa Rica. Students will be exposed to diverse perspectives on the successes and trade-offs of environmental protections in the region and the effects of conservation policies on local farmers and communities.

SOSC 3483 3.0 – Culture, Democracy, and Development in Africa II

SOSC 3483 examines the relationship between culture, democracy and development in Africa. It aims to give students an opportunity to acquire practical hands-on knowledge about how cultural and governance practices shape development challenges and opportunities in an African context.
