Program Costs

Prospective budgets and program fees for the upcoming summer are generally available in the new year. Please refer to the respective course pages for the most current information for each course. Please also be aware that program fees are approximate and are subject to change based on the final number of students enrolled in the course, foreign exchange rate fluctuations, and other factors beyond LA&PS’ control.

Yes, all York students are eligible for some level of study abroad funding. Awards are generally based on program type, duration, length, and destination, as well as the availability of funds on a yearly basis. Please consult the Study Abroad Funding section for more details.

TBA

The payment deadlines for Summer 2024 study abroad courses have not yet been determined. Please check back in Fall 2023 for updated information.

Program fee refunds for students due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g., a medical emergency) will only be considered on a case-by-case basis. A doctor’s note stating that the student is not cleared to fly, or similar, will be required to be considered for a refund. Please connect with the Study Abroad Coordinator as soon as possible.

If a LA&PS Summer Study Abroad Course is cancelled due to low enrollment, a change in the course director’s circumstances, or restriction of travel into the destination country, students will receive a refund of their Program Fee.

The Program Fee includes the costs that are incurred by students in their destination country. For all courses, this includes accommodations, all program-related activities and excursions, classroom rental abroad, professor-related costs, and often some transportation and meals.

The cost of students’ flights, course tuition, travel insurance, food and spending money, and tourist visa (if one is needed) is not included in the Program Fee. Students are responsible for paying these costs themselves. More details are below.

  • Students are responsible for booking and paying for their own flight(s) to and from their destination city. The LA&PS Study Abroad team is not able to book flights on students’ behalf or integrate flight prices into the Program Fee.
  • Tuition is the cost of the course itself and is paid directly to York University. This is a separate cost to the Program Fee and is determined based on each student’s fee status and how many credits the course is valued at. More information about tuition costs can be found on the Financial Services website
  • All students participating in the LA&PS Summer Study Abroad Program must purchase GuardMe travel insurance. This is a separate cost and is not included in the Program Fee.
  • Depending on the course, students will need to purchase most of their own meals and/or groceries. These costs, as well as spending money, are additional to the program fee.
  • Some students may require a tourist visa to enter their program country. If a visa is required, it is the student’s responsibility to apply well ahead of their program start date and pay for their own visa.

The course deposit fee covers the initial expenses incurred abroad related to students’ participation. These fees are non-refundable once charged and are taken as a commitment that the student will participate in the study abroad course.

No, the cost of accommodations abroad will not be refunded or pro-rated once the program has begun. Please consult the refund criteria and schedule below for more information.
