March is International Women’s Month and we have several women-led academic lectures taking place. Gen Ed Courses

Want that degree? You need those Gen Eds 

All LA&PS degrees require 21 Gen Ed credits, and unfortunately, some students only realize they’re missing these when it may be too late to fix. 

To see a list of approved Gen Ed courses, visit the York Course Website. If you're unsure whether you've completed your Gen Ed requirements – or you know you haven't – please connect with your LA&PS academic advisor as soon as possible.

The new Academic & Communication Excellence Development (ACED) Certificate program offers workshops and hands-on projects to help you build academic, communication and teamwork skills. 

Deliver Presentations with Confidence and Clarity   

Presentation skills are key to clearly articulating your ideas, getting hired, excelling in your career and conveying important information. In this in-person workshop, you’ll learn practical public speaking strategies and techniques to help you feel confident when speaking in front of an audience.

Tea Time Talks

Join Tea Time Talks, a student-led series where you can share stories, explore cultures and build connections over tea. Enjoy free snacks, meet new friends and discover something new each month. Upcoming sessions:  

Mental Health & Student Well-being   

This session emphasizes dialogue, practical reflection and accessible conversations around well-being, creating space for students to listen, share and ask questions in a respectful and supportive setting. Please note, this session is not lecture-based or clinical in nature.

The Nellie Library 5th Undergraduate Student Conference  

This drop-in event highlights undergraduate student projects grounded in feminist, anti-racist, intersectional, queer and decolonial approaches, with complementary refreshments. 

This year's conference is a special fundraising event for Friends of Ruby, a local charity supporting queer and trans youth through safe housing, legal programs and counselling. Cash donations will be collected during the event, with raffle prizes available.
