The Work Integrated Learning team ran over 45 employer events this to year to connect partners from 20 different companies to LA&PS students for recruitment purposes. The events ranged from employer branding events to speed mentoring sessions and saw over 1,000 students in attendance. To-date, LA&PS has over 350 active employer partners and has posted over 4,000 job opportunities for students.
This year, the Operations Management team worked closely with LA&PS staff to support the delivery of the Becoming YU program, which provides LA&PS Work Study Students a rewarding and enriching earn-and-learn experience within the Faculty. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to student success and experiential learning, while fostering a supportive environment for professional growth.
In collaboration with various units, Associate Deans, the University Secretariat, the Registrar’s Office, and designated representatives from other Faculties, we are in the process of finalizing the new grading scheme and Faculty rules to ensure consistency across all units and faculties.
This year, LA&PS Colleges ran 13 student engagement events for first-year students to increase connections, provide support and build the confidence of first-year students.
We developed a plan to roll out LA&PS Life in Summer 2025 - as new student life and events platform and mobile app that will connect students to LA&PS Colleges programming including first-year peer mentors and events.
Vanier College Productions (VCP) increased student programming and engagement this year with 9 productions, 41 performances, 13 events and 12 workshops. Productions this year included Kinky Boots, The Wolves, Show Choir, Dance Collective, Vanier Improv Company, BIPOC Artist HUB, Grad Choir and more. VCP also ran important workshops on Consent and Intimacy Training and Presentation Skills.
This year, we continued to advance the implementation of the LA&PS Colleges re-envisioning mandate to deliver intentional programming to align to the student's life-cycle. This includes the new First-Year Experience eClass, Peer Mentorship Program and engagement events, the Upper Year Student Experience, which provides leadership and development opportunities for 3rd and 4th year students, as well as support and expanded programming for Grad Students such as Grad Choir. Founders College also continued to offer events and programming specific for BIPOC students.

De Meijer's works include Leaving Howe Island (Governor General's Award Finalist 2014), The Outer Wards (Raymond Souster Award finalist 2020), and alfabet/alphabet (Governor General's Award Winner 2021). Rice is an author and journalist from Wasauksing First Nation, and has written four books, including the bestselling novels Moon of the Crusted Snow, published in 2018, and its sequel, Moon of the Turning Leaves, published in 2023. The WIR program provides students with access to a working, professional writer for feedback and support. Both writers also hosted a variety of events open to the York community.
In the 2024-25 year, the Advancement team developed and managed 16 high-impact events, which engaged hundreds of donor prospects and alumni as mentors for students, expert panelists and focus group participants for new fundraising projects.

This year, the Curriculum team organized a Faculty-wide workshop on curriculum development to deepen understanding of the process and foster stronger connections and collaboration across units, ultimately enhancing clarity and alignment.
Success Stories
I had the pleasure of being part of Vanier College Productions (VCP) for a two years and it continued to be one of the most rewarding and grounding experiences during my time at York. It gave me a sense of community and belonging, which made a huge difference as an international student far away from home. The program is more than just theatre. It's a vibrant, inclusive space that brings people together and strengthens the spirit of York University.
— Luna Pham VCP Alumni
My experience with Vanier College Productions (VCP) has been one of the most impactful parts of my time at York University. I initially joined looking for a creative outlet, but it quickly became a supportive community where I could express myself, build confidence and connect with others. VCP gave me a sense of balance alongside my academic life, helping me develop practical skills like time management, teamwork and leadership, all of which translated into my studies.
— Michelle Omijeh VCP Alumni
I work as an International Student Success Ambassador, and this work-study position has allowed me to gain more confidence in my skills and develop new ones. I have had the opportunity to meet many people who have supported me in one way or another. The work-study program is amazing! It’s helped me understand what a real work environment is like and has prepared me with the skills and experience I’ll need moving forward.
— OluwaJuwon Olofe Work-study Student
As a work-study student at LA&PS, I serve as a Student Communications Assistant, where I manage social media content, support strategy development and oversee the LA&PS Voices Blog. This role is immensely beneficial as it allows me to hone my communication skills, deepen my understanding of digital media and gain practical experience in a professional setting. The work-study position not only supports me financially but also provides a platform to apply my academic learning in a real-world context.
— Dipanpreet Kaur Work-study Student
Working at Social Planning Toronto this past summer had a big impact on both my life and studies. It gave me hands-on experience in how research, policy and social issues come together in Toronto. Overall, I’ve developed stronger organizational and communication skills, and it’s reinforced my commitment to tackling social inequities in my studies and career.
— Anonymous LA&PS Student
Our co-op student made an excellent contribution to the research, policy, coalition-building and community engagement work in our organization. Her work helped to advance our research, policy and community engagement initiatives. We value the opportunity to participate in York's Co-op Program and appreciate the generous contribution of donors who make it possible for us to employ and mentor a York University student, while providing the student with a living wage.
— Beth Wilson Social Planning Toronto, Senior Researcher
Through my co-op at Pratt & Whitney, I was able to apply content I learned in my various HR courses in legitimate business scenarios. Participating in a co-op has been such an enriching experience, as it has equipped me with the skills and knowledge I need to succeed in the workplace.
— Tristan Cabral LA&PS Student
The Writer-in-Residence program has been a wonderful supplement to the creative writing program, providing students with opportunities to consult with working, professional writers on their stories and poems, and to attend talks, panels and other events about writing and publishing in Canada.
— Pasha Malla Associate Professor Program Coordinator, Creative Writing
I had a wonderful experience working with Professor Wu for my DARE research because he gave me the opportunity to present my proposal amongst peers, professors and academics. This encouraged me to engage with other research and provide my thoughts in a safe and welcoming space. The feedback I received guided me throughout the project.
— Simarpreet Kaur DARE Student
The DARE research project gave me an invaluable opportunity to independently conduct an analysis that will benefit my future career in finance. I got to explore how to read and utilize databases and how to work with software to create results from a regression analysis. It’s my first introduction to how computer programs can help with complex problems. Finally, I realized the importance of effectively communicating findings through a comprehensive literature review using credible sources and focusing on explaining material information.
We’re excited to welcome the 2024-2025 Advancing YU mentors as we kick off mentor-mentee matching this month!
