Welcome to March! We finally gain an hour of daylight this weekend so don’t forget that clocks spring forward by an hour on March 9. 

This month is #SDGMonthCanada and York University will be hosting events that you can find listed below.  Also, March 3 to March 7 marks Inclusion Week: The Paradox of Inclusion and you can get involved through events, activities and workshops! In this edition of The Scoop, discover a number of work-study and volunteer opportunities, learning workshops, academic lectures, VCP shows and more!

Inclusion Week 2025

Join us for Inclusion Week 2025! The York community is invited to think about what inclusion really means, challenge our assumptions and discover what we need to unlearn. The week includes several events, activities, workshops, tours, films, discussions and more! Here are a few of the many events available:

Supporting Survivors: How to Help Friends & Colleagues

In honour of International Women's Day, join us for a powerful session on how to support friends and colleagues who have experienced sexual violence. Let's work together to create a culture of support and empowerment by strengthening allyship and gaining tools to respond to disclosures with care and confidence.

The Department of History Public Lecture

When Your City Becomes a Campus: Life in the Shadows of the Ivory Tower
Join us as professor, historian and author, Davarian L. Baldwin from Trinity College, delves in to the interconnections of gentrification and higher education in urban America. His recent book, In the Shadow of the Ivory Tower, explores higher education's growing control over urban America and the costs for those living in the shadows.

Waste as Horizon: Infrastructure and Palestine’s Future
How does waste mediate social and political life? Join film-maker and anthropologist, Sophia Stamatopoulou-Robbins, as she examines Palestinians’ experiences with waste in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, exploring what waste management without a state reveals about twenty-first century settler colonialism.
